New addiction: Poker
As you may know, Texas Hold 'em is the latest craze. I'm not much of a gambler, because my excuse is: I'd rather go shopping. I hate losing or wasting money. When I shop, I come home with something with 100% certainty. My brothers had one good point: it can be cheaper than hitting a bar on the weekend. It's also cheaper than shopping depending on the buy-in. The only game I like playing in Vegas is Pai Gow Poker, a slow an easy game. I've played Pai Gow Poker for 8 hours straight at New York New York Casino, for a couple days in a row before. However, that was a cash game. I do like the fact that you can buy-in once and can play for hours in Texas Hold' em.
Anyhow, my brothers played a free game with me on Thanksgiving. Guess what? I won! Of course, I didn't understand strategy at all. My brothers went "all in", which I didn't understand was a scare tactic. So I said, "Sure," and called them to their surprise. Beginner's luck was on my side at the time, so my cards ended up beating my bros'. I got bragging rights, but no cash that time. With some confidence under my belt, I played with my brothers and their friends on Friday night. I was not playing consistently at all. I wanted to win, but I only placed third against the 8 guys. We played another round after that. I wanted to play more. On Saturday, I was able to get my bros to play another game at home. I won the pot, but I didn't want the money, just the bragging rights- woo hoo! I wanted to play again, but they were tired and already had another game with friends planned for later that night. I'll have to play some poker on the internet...
