My friend taught me a new word, which he thought described me. He said, "You've got a veneer of being chatty and happy right now." I didn't realize veneer could be used outside the context of teeth.
His wife chimed in, "But you do seem melancholy."
He disagreed and stated, "No, I think she's dour." She referring to me, that is.
He spelled it for me and I thought it sounded like the word, sour. I looked it up on Dictionary.com, which actually listed dour and sour as synonyms. Interesting.
I asked if it's like depressed or sad. He doesn't think I'm depressed, but rather I'm sad. Last week, my other friend said that a shrink claims there is a difference between depressed and sad. My guy friend asked why I was sad. I came up with an answer, but I'm not sure if it's the truth, or at least the whole truth.
