Dirty in the Big Apple

I mentioned that there was alot of trash to some New Yorkers (friends of a friend). One guy asked asked me point blank, "Well, is there anything good about NYC?" Silence. I couldn't really come up with anything in response to that confrontational attitude. My New Yorker friend admitted that he didn't understand why people called New York "a dirty city" until he moved to San Diego (my hometown, in case you didn't know). He figured that there are simply more people in New York, so there will be more trash. I think it's the city's culture on top of the frequency of garbage pick-up day.

Honestly, I realized that I should have taken a picture of what I mean. If you're from NYC, you'll think nothing of it. If you're not from there, then you might think I'm exaggerating. Instead of trash bins on the sidewalk for garbage collection, there are mounds of plastic bags overflowing with trash. I guess passer-bys add to the "collection", but don't care if it spills over to the street.

Moreover, graffitti adorned any space possible in NYC. Of course, there is graffitti in San Diego, but not to the same extent. New York reminds me of Paris. If you're French, sorry. I call it as I see it. I'll try to think of some good points about the Big Apple in the meanwhile...
