No drugs down the drain

When I picked up something from a local pharmacy today, there was a flyer in the bag. The California Pharmacists Association is spreading awareness about "No drugs down the drain". Sounds like common sense, but I didn't realize that medicine is considered hazardous waste. Therefore, flushing pills down the toilet is polluting the environment. Unfortunately, I have done so in the past, but now I know better. I learn something new every day...
