Electronic signature

The use of electronic signatures is becoming more prevalent.  I recall the first time one of my suppliers asked me to sign an electronic pad for his service.  I was taken aback.  True, I should trust our supplier, but how do I know that my signature won't be stolen or sold?  This practice is more widespread nowadays at common establishments, including grocery stores, department stores, etc.  I suppose that the technology is advanced enough to ensure privacy and security, but there is always that chance to fall victim to fraud and identity theft.  I've heard some scary stories out there.  What happens if I decide to refuse to sign electronically?  I guess I have the option to take my business elsewhere or pay in cash.  This is just a random thought I had recently.

Pros:
  • Save the trees (environmentally-friendly)
  • Create new jobs for this electronic device
  • Electronic storage, less storage/waste for receipts
  • More efficient gathering of data
  • Easier tracking of data
Cons:
  • Less control for consumers
  • Sensitive information (both credit card number and signature)
