Yoga is good for me

At least, that's what I tell myself when I go to the gym. I've only found enough energy to make it to classes with my friends. Tonight was my 4th time doing yoga in my whole life. If you haven't had the chance, let me tell you: yoga's hard! Supposedly, it's good for flexibility and strength, without being hard on your body like in running, for example.

I must say that some of these poses or postures (AKA asanas) are ridiculous!!! Down-dog, up-dog, plank, etc. There is one pose that slips my mind, but it sounds like the Mexican food, chimichanga. Of course, I shouldn't think about food during a workout. Since I can't take any pictures during yoga class, I found this helpful website that provides a list of poses with visual aids. On the right, we have the "eagle" pose (or garuda-asana in Sanskrit). I know it looks easy in the picture, but when I do that pose, I feel more like an "eagle on wobbly legs". For all I know, yoga could have been invented by someone who wanted to make others look ridiculous. Yes, I shall investigate the origin of yoga soon...

Despite the funny names for poses, I like yoga enough that I bought a yoga mat today before heading to class. Why don't the mats come with velcro, a strap, a bag or something to make it easier to carry?? I ended up buying a bag separately, which cost as much as the mat itself! Talk about ripping us off. However, this bag from prAna is quite smart in design with a small front pocket for knick-knacks, such as my gym membership card, ID, money, and cell phone. Plus there is a clip to hold my keys. As you can see, I'm on this yoga kick... I also bought some yoga pants and shirts from VictoriasSecret.com. CLICK HERE to see the outfit worn on a Victoria's Secret model- ooh la la.

I hope I stay on this exercising kick. I just need a stable workout partner. Today, two guy friends joined my friend and me. It's definately more entertaining with a group of friends, especially during their first time at yoga. Believe it or not, there is a good number of guys in our yoga classes. Next is pilates, which I heard is even harder than yoga. Yay! Not!
