Not a mommy blogger

A good portion of women at this BlogHer conference are mommy bloggers. This makes sense since a majority of women are stay-at-home moms who have a little bit more time and have something to write about. Sometimes I wish my mom had a blog when I grew up since I don't remember much about my childhood. Blogging allows mothers (and fathers) to capture the funny and sad moments, highlights and lowlights, whatever as their kid(s) grow up.

Anyhow, one women introduced herself and said something to the effect of, "What's your blog about? You don't look like a mommy blogger." I laughed and exclaimed, "I don't have time for blogging and a baby." That was supposed to be a joke, but it kind of hit a chord with me. Why can't I look like I have a kid? Sure, I'm wearing a short jean skirt and heels, but is there a specific uniform for moms? When I become a mom, does that mean I have to change my wardrobe? Silly thought, huh? Not having a kid seems like to keep me out of the circle or click of moms. I tried to fit in by saying, "I've got friends with kids. I can refer your blog to them."

Blogging has allowed alot of people, especially women, have their voice heard. This is a great way for introvents or shy/quiet people to say something. One lady here said that blogging helped her talk without yelling. She was not referring to anger management, but rather "without yelling" meant being able to speak with no debate. There are feminists here as well, something with which I don't identify. To each his or her own.

All in all, I can't say that I've networked at this conference as much as I thought I would. However, the second day is not over yet. Stay tuned...
